The INSCIAT recognizes outstanding technical and professional achievements and contributions through multiple kinds of awards for all members, sections and student branches.

1. Best Paper Award (BPA)

Scope: Presents to the individual(s) judged by an awards committee to have written the best paper appearing in the INSCIAT conference proceedings or Journals.
Prize: The prize shall be $300 per author (up to a maximum of $900 per award) and a certificate. In the event that there are more than three authors, the maximum prize shall be divided equally among all authors and each shall receive a certificate.
Eligibility: Eligibility is based on a three-year window: for example, for the 2015 Award, the paper must have appeared in one of the INSCIAT conference proceedings or Journals between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2014.
Basis for Judging: Judging shall be based on general quality, originality, subject matter, and timeliness.
Selection Process: Up to four Best Paper Awards may be presented annually. There shall be an open call for nominations reaching all INSCIAT members.

2. Section of the Year Award (CYA)

The Section of the Year Award (CYA) will be presented annually to a section that has provided their membership with the highest quality of programs, activities and services. The award will consist of a certificate and cash in the amount of $1,000 to support local section activities. The winning section will also be invited to publish an article in the INSCIAT highlights.

Eligibility: All INSCIAT sections established more than one year are eligible.
Prize: The winning section will receive a certificate and cash of $1,000. In the event that multiple sections are selected, each winner shall still receive $1,000.
Schedule:
Call for nominations emailed to local section chairs--July annually
Deadline for nominations -- 30 September
CYA Selection Committee to choose winner -- by 30 November
Award presentation to winning section – by 31 December

Selection Process: The nominated sections will be evaluated based on the following section activities, programs and services during the past year:

  1. Technical activities (e.g., technical meetings, workshops and conferences, tours with industry)
  2. Educational programs (e.g., courses, seminars, student workshops, tutorials, student activities)
  3. Membership development (e.g., programs to encourage students and engineers to join the society, growth in section’s membership, member advancement programs)

Selection will be based on the nominator’s submission of the CYA nomination form.

3. Student Branch of the Year Award (SYA)

The Student Branch of the Year Award (SYA) will be presented annually to a student branch that has provided their membership with the highest quality of programs, activities and services. The award will consist of a certificate and cash in the amount of $1,000 to support local student branch activities. The winning student branch will also be invited to publish an article in the INSCIAT highlights.

Eligibility: All INSCIAT student branches established more than one year are eligible.
Prize: The winning student branch will receive a certificate and cash of $1,000. In the event that multiple student branches are selected, each winner shall still receive $1,000.

Deadline for nominations -- 30 September
SYA Selection Committee to choose winner -- by 30 November
Award presentation to winning student branch – by 31 December

Selection Process: The nominated student branches will be evaluated based on the following student branch activities, programs and services during the past year:

4. Technical Achievement Award (TAA)

Scope: Honors a person who, over a period of years, has made outstanding technical contributions to theory and/or practice in technical areas, as demonstrated by publications, patents, or recognized impact on the field.
Prize: The prize shall be $1,200 and a certificate.
Eligibility: All members. Previous recipients of the Technical Achievement Award are ineligible.
Basis for Judging: Nominees shall be judged on the basis of outstanding technical contributions to theory and/or practice in technical areas, as demonstrated by publications, patents, or recognized impact on the field.
Selection Process: Up to two Technical Achievement Awards may be presented annually, provided nominations meet the specific criteria.
